The nesting place of turtles in Cyprus at Lara Beach

Lara Beach is at the Akamas peninsula. People come from all over Cyprus both residents and holiday makers from Protaras and Ayia Napa, Paphos and Limasol to visit the beach. The Akamas area is the last large unspoilt coastal area in Cyprus and plays a huge importance. The beach is the home of the turtles, Ammoudi beach which is shaped like a horse shoe, since 1978 there is a hatchery here. The beaches are isolated and protected, thus turtles come to lay their eggs between august and September. The Loggerhead Turtle and the rarer Green Turtle nest here. The Green Turtle relies deeply on the Akamas beaches for its survival. In the nesting months, eggs laid in other places are also brought to the bay for protection.
